While I love the (British) Open...I agree in that part of it is that is uniquely British. We do not need to have two opens in the same style. Eric knows I agree with him about having more unique courses for a U.S.Open...he mentioned Utah...with all of those scenic canyons...you have a great course with such a backdrop...would be great. Mix it up a bit.

Mix it up a bit. Wow you know when Josh is agreeing with this that there is a problem. I just turned on golf for the first time a few minutes ago and the first thing I heard was a British sounding commentator and the course looks terrible and it appears to be a wind ravaged mess. Fox is downright horrible at golf. Who wants to tune in and watch this. For some reason golf courses like this regardless of how they appear on TV are continuously used for majors when they shouldn't be. I hope Fox loses about 50% of their view ship as a consequence for this course and this broadcast team. I didn't think I would say this but I officially hope that a European player wins this thing. Poulter, Fleetwood or Rose the way it looks. It would serve the USGA right. While their at it why don't they choose a course like this for the next Ryder Cup as well so we can ensure that the Euro's leave American with another Ryder Cup. Put it in a place that is the windiest place in America. That is like changing the U.S Tennis Open to Clay (which is already way too long of a season considering how short the grass season is which includes the best tourney in the world at the All England Club). Most American's suck at clay and excel on hard courts. That is how dumb it is to choose this course for the U.S. Open Golf Tourney. Now I will tell you what I really think. Sorry USGA but people want to watch water, they want to watch trees that are actually within the bounds of the course. Basically they like Augusta National or Sawgrass. Jordan just might make the cut yet with his late run.

U.S.Open is often boring golf. I like it when "the real winner is the course"...but to a limit. It is nice to not have 22 under psr winning...but I dont really want the guys looking like watching middle school matches either. Fox sucks at EVERYTHING...so no surprise this coverage yanks. Kind of a diappointment...where the Masters is always a pure joy to watch.

My subs for the U.S., I mean British, I mean U.S. Open.
Out: Spieth, Hadley
In: Rodgers, Snedeker
The minus 8's and better will make the cut and with just a handful of golfers on the course right now 68 players are above the cut line. I was lucky that Spieth made 4 straight birdies to get to +7 but than on the last two holes his short game majorly let him down, he made 2 boggies and missed the cut by 1 shot. On the other hand I had about 6 other golfers that were right around the cut line and I was lucky that 5 of my golfers made the cut. With less than 70 players making the cut and with the score fluctuations that are happening here any golfer even 1 shot on the right side of the cut line is a valuable golfer.

Here are the traded golfers and how they fared at the U.S. Open on cut down day.
For Josh - Noren easily made the cut at +4
For Ryan - Fleetwood easily made the cut at +1, Finau made the cut at +7, Uihlein made the cut at +7, Levy missed the cut at +17
For Eric - Berger made the cut at +7, Chappell made the cut at +7, Hadley missed the cut at +11, Wise missed the cut at +11

So the final number is 67 players that made the cut and 89 did not. Only a 43% clip made it but considering all the qualifiers that get in by getting hot for a week there are quite a few barely worthy golfers in the field. Maybe it is just me but my perception is that the U.S. Open is the most random and unpredictable tourney of them all and especially the majors. It is a crap shoot and a battle of attrition more than anything. All the 9 overs are leaving thinking "if I just wouldn't have hooked that drive, or yipped that putt or duffed that chip".

What a crazy day in New York. Zach Johnson said that "they have lost the course". Take that for what you will but I assume he is not happy with the upkeep of it. Today was a joke. When people like Rickie Fowler shoot +14 in one round you gotta problem. This could cause particular golfers to go on a prolonged slump, seriously. When these guys get out of New York they can't make anything of it. Don't try to analyse anything that happens there, but just move on. It is like the phrase "what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas". Daniel Berger and Tony Finau are the beneficiaries of today. How the both of them shot -4 out there who knows but that is gaining a bunch of strokes on the field. I think Berger is actually pegged for the last group but that might mean nothing more than a 80 on his card for Sunday. It would be interesting to hear others opinions of this U.S. Open.

Well documented with the players feelings and I would have to agree. Even big Mike said they screwed the pooch. It became two different courses as the day went on and players were being penalized for good shots. The second that starts happening you have a big problem. I have no problems with a challenging course but impossible playing conditions is another thing. We will see what tomorrow brings. The USGA promised better playing conditions but you can’t have a course like today. If so, someone who can go out earlier again, like Finau and Berger today and post low scores could be your winner by default. If that plays out, it’s not a true representation of the game. I don’t mind the course, think it’s a cool course actually. But when you manipulate playing conditions like today and make the pins impossible to get to, that’s bullshit. Seems like every few years this happens in the US Open and we end up talking more about playing conditions and the sucky USGA than we do about the players, tournament and incredible shots that were made.
