I have personally touched base with a few of you...this is just a heads up to everyone in the league, as well as a general update what is going on for the coming 3-4 months overall.
Last week my youngest son, Kipling, who will turm seventeen in August, had an autopsy from a growth from his wrist that had increasing become more problematic over the past several months. On Monday afternoons, it was confirmed to be Synovial Sarcoma, a rare soft tissue cancer. This week since has been a whirlwind of meetings, scans, next Thursday another PetScan, getting teams together, etc.
The GOOD news/ silver lining is that everything appears to be that nothing has spread...the lymph nodes, lungs, etc. all seem clear, etc...so we are dealing just with the mass on his wrist.
Be that as it may...this is a rare form of cancer, (although it is usually more prevaleny among younger patients...i.e. thirty years of age or younger), and his mass is currently 5.5 centimeters...they want it down below five centimeters at least before surgery to remove the mass. The mass also is sitting on his carpel tunnel, and with the tendons there, it also is his right wrist, thus his dominant hand.
So...the PLAN...which likely will begin week after next...will be radiation every day for the next 5-6 weeks. During this time there will be three cycles of chemotherapy for three to five days within each four week cycle...perhaps needing to stay overnight due to the intensity. Best case, all goes well and according to plan, he will have surgery around early October, get the crap out of him, and we can start getting this being something discussed in the past tense.
Some of you have known... since divorce ten years ago...sons ( now son) comes here sounds whole summer with me...of course that is out window. You also might know we are scheduled to go to Alaska for a couple weeks, two weeks from this Sunday. Alas, while my other son, and nephew ( my Quasi-Son), will be with us...Kip no longer will be going with us.
This week, I think I have aged five years, alone. I am very emotional now on top of all that...I am picking Kip from the airport in Minneapolis...my mom, wife, and niece all chipped in to have Kip come here today, to be here through Wed a few days, as an early Father's Day gift...since I will not be with him as usual for Father's Day...or the summer.
I will post my U.S.Open roster early...but I cannot guarantee communication as usual, as this coming week, my focus will be elsewhere. Probably even all summer...who knows...could be very topsy-turvy turvey...just letting you all know what will be going on/ why if I do have periods where I seem fairly silent.
I have grateful for this league at times in the past as a necessary outlet away from other stresses...and I value you as true friends, and some of you...we go back a good ways. Rich, we have been talking about our kids, for over twenty-plus years now...where does the time go?
Anyway...thank you all,Eric thanks for the always great job, and integrity you display with this league. I am around...just might be a bit consumed at times these next few months. Good luck to all.
P.S. -- if you DO want to trade...still can bring that my way...I will see it...lol 😉
