Not a real star studded top of the leaderboard so far but really not a very star studded field in general. Stenson and Poulter are about the only ones in the top 19 that are of significant name. Not quite as lowly as the field at the Puerto Rico Open but definately on the lamer side of things when it comes to PGA Tour events. Defending champ Senden doesn't look real promising to try to repeat at tied for 114th after round 1. It looks like Harrington at +5 isn't looking to make noise this tourney to follow up his win at the Honda. It's good to see John Daly at the bottom of the leaderboard where he belongs. For whatever reason his trainwreck of a personality reasonates with golf fans and I have never quite been able to figure that out. Justin Rose is off to a slow start this year wallowing at +3. On the leaderboard he is alongside the beaten and bruised Robert Allenby. I love Luke Donald as much as the rest of em but I don't understand why the experts were picking him to win. He just doesn't do that anymore and doesn't look to change the trend at tied for 80th. On a personal level this isn't one of my better tourneys either at T 20th, T 59th, T 80th, T 98th and 143rd. If Ryan Moore has his traditional Sunday meltdown I may not have anyone in the top 40 by the end of this thing.

This field wasn't so bad ..... Scott, Furyk, Spieth, Kuchar,Reed, Sneds, Westwood, Luiten, Oostey, Na all playing ad well. I think these four tourneys are all tests in various ways, and I think that if a week off, this week just is the odd one out for many. I discussed this some last week...but you actually always hear much praise for this course. I don't think many love Doral...but it is a huge WGC event...so they cannot miss the event. Add that it is right after a tough draining Honda event....well a few even miss the Honda. Then so many want to be there for Arnie's event...so there you go...so many make this the week to rest....especially if they have ANY plans of going to either Texas event prior to Augusta.

I still don't think the field is all that great, just my opinion so I guess we will have to disagree. I do like Florida golf as you know and the Copperhead course is nice. I am not downing the course just the participants. Even a course like Pebble which is obviously world class doesn't always draw a majority of the top players. When ya have tourney's like Doral (and I do like that course) and Bay Hill (and I like that course as well) in Florida there has to be a week off in there somewhere and alot of the top golfers are not playing the Valspar. I think of all the tourney's in Florida this one is the least desirable for the players.
When it comes to Florida my co favorite course on tour (along with Augusta) Sawgrass is about as awsome as it gets. I think the best two week span on tour this year just might be the Match Play and the Players on back to back weeks. That is gonna be awsome. I wish they would keep that rotation from here on out but I think I heard they may be moving match play again in the future.
The Players Championship should be the 5th major. Luckily it is in our league.
On the old rotation the Players used to be 2 weeks from now and as luck would have it that spot is now occupied by the one and only Valero Texas Open. We are actually only 2 weeks out from this shameful event. It's a good thing I have interest in the NCAA Tournament that goes on during that weekend. Shouldn't that tourney be sponcered by Waste Management instead of them sponcering Phoenix.

Vijay Singh is only one off the lead. How long until he completely falls apart? Hopefully soon.

The top of the leaderboard is starting to show more big names after round 3. Ryan Moore needs to avoid his Sunday collapse and will play with Spieth in the final group. The -5's will have to be watched closely containing Reed, Kuchar and Stenson. Any of those three could make a serious push to win it.
Here is my list from top to bottom of who I think has the best chance to win tomorrow based on where they stand currently.
Spieth Moore Kuchar Stenson Reed Ernst O'Hair
