Group 1
Dustin Johnson
Jimmy Walker
Martin Kaymer
Webb Simpson
This appears to be a tough group top to bottom. I guess that is the reward DJ gets for being #1. Any of the 4 could pull this off but I will go with DJ to take the group but get eliminated in the round of 16.
Group 2
McIlroy
Grillo
Woodland
Kjeldsen
If Grillo had been playing better coming in he would be a fun upset pick but Rory made the semi's last year. Too bad that Rich has two of his premier golfers in this group only to have both of them be underdogs to Rory. I am going McIlroy in this group.
Group 3
Day
Leishman
Westwood
Perez
Compared to the first two groups I think Day has a good draw. He hasn't been playing up to his own standards this year but I will go with Day to advance but not make the finals this year.
Group 4
Matsuyama
Oosthuizen
R Fisher
Furyk
I am actually tempted to pick Ross Fisher in an upset here even though Louis made the semi-final last year and Matz is just elite. Oh what the heck I will go with Ross Fisher to win this group.
Group 5
Spieth
R Moore
Ikeda
Tanihara
I was honestly going to pick someone other then Spieth to win his group but Moore is not playing very well and I don't trust either of these Asians. I am going to pick Spieth by default. I think Spieth loses in the round of 16.
Group 6
Justin Thomas
Matthew Fitzpatrick
Na
Chris Wood
This is going to be an upset pick and I am going with M-Fitz despite given 2 seconds of consideration to pick Wood but I gave him no longer than that.
Group 7
Sergio Garcia
Rahm
Chappell
Lowry
Rahm seems like a guy that is gonna fourish in match play. I don't know if I am forgetting anyone but these 2 seems like the best 2 spaniards in the game right now. This is actually a damn tough bracket but I gotta go with Rahm here and possibly make a run to the final four.
Group 8
Alex Noren
Francesco Molinari
Wiesberger
Jaidee
I see this as possible the weakest bracket so far. I think Noren is very over rated and don't see him as a player that is going to come up big when the chips are on the line. Sorry Josh but I am going with Molinari by default.
Group 9
Reed
Koepka
Kisner
Dufner
This is like the group of death especially with Kisner picking up his game again. Is it just me or does it seem like Koepka has barely played this year and the same goes for Reed. I am debating between the top 3 but ultimately I think dough boy should really thrive in this environment so Reed it is.
Game 10
Hatton
Bello
Wang
Howell III
Wow Hatton and Bello is a heck of a tough choice. Hatton has been playing well and Bello made a good run last year. Maybe I should throw Wanger a bone but I will go with the coin flip and take Hatton in this group.
Group 11
Willett
Knox
Haas
K.T. Kim
This is a tough one. Knox is not playing well and Kim is unknown. I still don't trust Danny boy so I am going with Bill Haas in this group.
Group 12
Casey
Schwartzel
An
Luiten
Casey seems a bit over rated for a #12 rated guy. Any of the 4 could win it. I would pick An but he choked in one of the west coast tourneys. I don't really remember any of the above being all that good in match play. I will go ahead and take An to win the group.
Group 13
B Watson
Pieters
Piercy
Vegas
Another group where the recent play of most of them hasn't been very good. Because of that I will pick Pieters as it seems like he has been playing the best.
Group 14
Mickelson
Holmes
Berger
Si Woo Kim
Wow this is a very salty group but some of the players aren't necessarily on the top of their game. Phil seems like the pick but I am not sure how good he is at match play and Kim hasn't been very good lately. So between Berger and Holmes it seems like J.B. is the rock of the group and I will pick him to win the group.
Group 15
Grace
Snedeker
McGirt
Sullivan
This is a tough one. Gotta go with the Sneds but I am not sure how good he is at match play. Any of the 4 could win.
Group 16
Kuchar
Fleetwood
Z Johnson
Steele
This is a damn good group and it is too bad that only one will advance. I just think Fleetwood is on his game right now so I will go with him. One of the Euro's that I am really starting to like.
Without really looking what is or is not possible I will pick the following for my final 4
Rahm
Day
McIlroy
Pieters
I will go with McIlroy and Rahm in the final with McIlroy teaching the young'n a lesson in the final. Rahm will have plenty of chances later in his career to pay him back. I will admit that I like to see Rory choke eventhough I don't hate him, but don't love him either.
