No offense to Mexico and/or the course played this year for the WGC event instead... but NOT having the Blue Monster around...that's just wrong.

Not to bring politics into this but I am very happy that anything that has the name Donald Trump on it gets cancelled or boycotted so I am happy about that. With that said I am sorry to lose that course as well. I don't know why they brought Mexico into this but oh well, I hope it goes well. They should have just picked another PGA ready type course in Florida to match the million others in that state.
I read an article a few weeks back that mentioned that the new PGA commissioner is thinking about changing up the schedule of the majors and is thinking about the idea of moving forward the PGA Championship to May and moving the Players back to March. Then they would have the Fed Ex Cup Playoff end prior to the start of the football season. I am all for it because I like golf more in the spring and early summer than I do closer to September. That would be sweet because you would have the Players in March, Masters in April, PGA in May, U.S. Open in June and Brownish Open in July. One great event for every month of the prime golf season. Love the idea but the only thing I don't like about it is having the Brownish Open be the last major of the year. Maybe they could just bump that event off the majors list and add the Players in it's place.

You're a trip, Eric. That all said... some of that sounds cool...even though I do like a little Autumn golf....August is stil Summer anyway. The only real thing is that like Eric....I believe there are many good golf sites....areas of the country that dont get covered. The only lull seems when we have a few boring tourneys together in the summer. Now we lose Doral, yet Valero LIVES? ?!!. Lol Get some other cool sites every year...a few more Northern ones...mix it up a little.

Here are the tourney's that in my opinion at least deserve some consideration for moving locations.
Valero Texas Open - I don't think hardly anyone would disagree that they could do much better
Zurich Classic of New Orleans - not as bad as Valero but they could do better
Byron Nelson - I know some may disagree but I don't really think the Dallas Fort Worth area should get two annual events and Colonial isn't gonna be the one to go
St. Jude Classic - I mean it is ok but I wouldn't really miss it and something new in it's place would be alright with me. Memphis shouldn't necessarily have a tourney every year
John Deere Classic - I know it is in western illinois and all but the tour could do much better than this mediocre course. This would be on my top 3 cut list.
I know every year I kind of rehash this but why not one more time
They need to bring back a mountain course such as the Sprint International that they took away from Castle Rock on the outskirts of Denver. I miss that once a year Stableford scoring system. Even if not in Colorado they need one true mountain course every year. Utah would also be a great place for a tourney.
I think putting something up in Vermont or Maine in July would also be pretty cool and something in the pines of Washington would also be cool but not where they had the U.S. Open a couple of years ago. I wouldn't mind something in Kentucky either. I believe near Louisville they have held a major or two over the years. Can't think of the course off hand.

Valhalla is what you are thinking of, Eric...and you basically were matching my sentiments...I even almost mentioned Maine in my last post. Cherry Hills is another in Colorado, I believe, and a difficult course at that. Utah WOULD be cool...but so many states. Alaska course in July....THAT would be awesome. Go to Rhode Island...Virginia has many good courses....New Mexico would be cool....these places never get anything. I also agree with your tourney choices to swap.

Yepper Valhalla is the one I was thinking about. They have a cool peninsula hole there that I always remember and it is kind of bordered by large boulders and water. Cherry Hills sounds cool as I could get on board with that. I know in Utah Bountiful just north of Salt Lake City has a couple of worthy courses. I keep thinking back to that old micro soft computer golf and some of the courses I used to play on that back in the 90's. Banff Springs up in Alberta Canada is probably one of my favorite courses so an event there would be cool, and who says it has to be the Canadian Open eventhough I think it should be. That tourney always seems to be played in the east but the real beauty in Canada is West of Winnipeg. Alaska, absolutely I could live with that. I was actually thinking of Virginia as well. I know they already have a tourney in Greensboro NC and in West Virginia so I wouldn't want too much over kill in the appalachian states but if there was a worthy area of over kill that area would be a candidate. Anything east of Knoxville in Tennessee would also be cool. The Chattanooga area I could live with as I drove through there once and it is very nice. I love golf courses that take the lay of the natural land around it and don't require a ton of land moving.
What would be cool with the PGA is to have more tourney's that play on multiple courses and I am not necessarily talking about Pebble Beach where the courses are on the same block of land and all get played during the same tourney. I think the Career Builder could give Big Horn a shot as it is in the general Palm Springs area. What I mean is having like a three state area take turns hosting events. Maybe the John Deere Classic could move all over the Illinois area because there are historically good courses in that state. Have a tourney that swaps back and forth between multiple courses in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Put Montana and Idaho in the rotation with maybe Utah. Throw in Wyoming and Colorado together. Wyoming is probably under rated for how nice the land scape is there when you get into the central to western part of the state. I drove through Wyoming a couple of years ago and was surprised how nice the scenery was there. It's a bit boring in the east if you call rolling prairies boring but drive west and it is worth the drive. I didn't even get to the Grand Teton and Yellowstone area which would probably be incredible.

Agree, with a lot of this...thete is a seniors event out west that is incredible...wondered why we never saw that ever with regular tour.
I am with you with letting the natural scenery and topography dictate things, rather than bobcats and bulldozers create something that never was really intended to be there. Lot of these lush settings...or mountainous one out West...the driveable Par 4's that could be created on courses out there would be amazing! I do like more driveable Par 4's...not easy ones...but ones that reward the bold, but punish being TOO bold, or not making the shot. Last week, that course...it IS exciting...have to admit that. Even on a Par 3...such ad island green at TPC... it isnt jusy the island...that putting green with the undulations and certain pin placement are rough. I really enjoy courses that MAKE these great players perform to the high standards...and humble them in the process as well.
I really do not like many of the tourneys where a guy who shoots 14 under is in a tie for 41st. Hawaii tourneys...hey, I get it, it is early January, and most of us are having post-holiday blahs, and whete many of us are.. also realizing we have 2-3 months of utter winter crap to endure, etc. - but the Sony Open is not enjoyable golf...especially when you even see ho-hummish nobodys getting 20- under par at times. Again...while what Thomas did those two weeks was incredible, and he probably IS the real deal now and longterm....rather see him do it on some more worthy courses and events. His four victories two are in a tourney during the very beginning of the now "wrap-around" season --- when most of the REAL golfer...especially the elite ones, are taking a good deal of time off. We have that, and the two Hawaiian Putt-Putt events. Again...he destroyed...and other criteria point towards being a star, elite guy like his chum, Jordan... but he hasnt proven things just quite, yet IMO.
Anyway...like the ideas, just initially was thinking how much not having Doral really make me miss it.
