Maybe someone start a new thread for this. Also...I know you love this tourney,Eric...but it usually is my least favorite of the majors. I know your thoughts about the (British) Open...but while I can understand you love of manicured Bermuda courses, the game started there, and being an overall historian who respects those who came before us...golf is no different in this...least IMO. My main issues with the U.S.Open is that more than any other tournament...even the other three majors, they try too hard to thwart golfers performing well. Now, I love true tests, and difficult courses --- especially when some weeks shooting 18 under only gets you a tie for tenth place. The Masters, British and PGA all have tough courses...some years scoring can be better...some years it can be a true survival...but most years it is relatively a lower winning score, but there are some true chances and opportunities to do well. That is what I do not like about the U.S.Open.. it seems more to just lay it on thick, so instead of a player possibly having a valid chance to bounce back from a poor hole, they prefer to add a more difficult hole, or snowball the agony. I like seeing great golfers humbled a bit, and have to dig deeper and be genuinely challenged...but not torn up...it isn't enjoyable to watch.

I don't think you should go 50% of the field, it's either all or nothing, if you change the rule mid season than it should apply to anyone who has a player not finishing before the cut reguardless of the circumstances
