Earlier I gave this course way too much credit and I was also wrong about the kind of course it is. Barely any trees and no water that I saw. A little closer to links golf than I would prefer. Two years in a row on a non traditional U.S. style course. Yuck. Of course there will be problems with tall rough and sand but this isn't my favorite course for the tourney by far. I just don't like courses that have a million bunkers and more of that ugly light brownish yellow hay on the course. They better watch out or the livestock might wander on over and eat that stuff off the course. Lets rename this the Valero Pennsylvania Open, LOL. I know I will catch a little crap for this post. :-)

Haha, they chopped a bunch of trees down. I don't think they can grow the rough as thick as they want around the trees. This is going to be a blood bath.

Noren and Hanson are both intriguing underlying guys, still available.

I'm with Eric. I do not like the look of links golf. I love the big oaks and the US courses. Just more pleasing to the eye. These courses aren't as much fun watching them hack out. I like risk v reward like the Masters. Probably why it's my favorite sporting event overall. using the slopes, imagnination etc to get the ball close. Versus JUST precision.
that said, I think this will be a fun tournament. And, not nearly as ugly as last year. At least the freaking fairways won't be brown. Ugh, that was an ugly course last year.
I should have probably taken Phil out of my line-up. LOL I have a feeling he will not make the cut. That rough is WAY long and he will def be in it a lot.

Links golf is great...if in Britain...or maybe a course here in the States that has been around a hundred years or so. Links golf is about HISTORY...especially the next major...that is where it gets charm. Making a new links course...well yeah...makes little sense to do that here...especially last year, when Washington State is one of the lushest, loveliest parts of this country...could have been a beautiful course.

I don't think I would want every tourney having 6 inch rough but I do like it at the U.S. Open. I like courses that don't always just allow players to rip 340 yard drives off the fairway and not really pay a price. The U.S. Open makes golfers pay that price. I kind of like target golf from time to time that rewards straight hitters more than long hitters. I guess what I am saying is that I like variety. I think the PGA tour needs an event on a mountain course, a links course (maybe only once or twice), a tree ridden course, a water ridden course whatever. What I don't like is to see golf on a brown course. I like green. I also like alot of blue on a course.
We may all disgree on what we would like to see on a golf course but it does seem like there is a pretty good consensus that we all like the Masters and Augusta National.

I agree with most of your suggestions....different regions and topography.I also like target golf and accuracy. The U.S.Open though over does it sometimes, though. If a player hits a beautiful shot to within six feet of the cup, only to somehow see he has a 46-foot putt for birdie: because an almost stopped golf ball trickled slowly because the stimp meter of the green is a 27...just a bit too ridiculous. Augusta , the place itself is like a piece of heaven for golfèrs.

erinhills.com/golf/hole-by-hole/Well the U.S. Open has done it again for 2017. Another course that is primarily a links course in playability and appearance. No trees, no water and the course doesn't have an eye pleasing appearance. The only thing I do like is that there does seem to be some undulation to the fairways and greens. Just what is it with the USGA or whoever decides where these tournaments will be played. This is now 3 years in a row for the non US Open traditional courses. This course was appropriately named after the quarterback of the Green Bay Packers. By next year for the third straight year will have the same sponsor. Welcome to the 2017 Valero Wisconsin Open. This is becoming laughable. Maybe by then the USGA will assess a stroke penalty if someone's shadow touches their ball.
