Tiger is officially not in the field for the Houston Open. That means no warm up events prior to the Masters. There have been no wispers from the Tiger camp whether or not he will play Augusta. He seems awfully quite lately. Will he actually skip the premier tourney of the season. I really don't think at this point he would play well there anyway but that wouldn't stop the cameras from watching his every move if he did play. This was advice, two yrs ago. But I contend, it's still appropro: Trevino to Tiger Woods: Go back to Harmon Hall of Fame golfer Lee Trevino has some advice for Tiger Woods: Become a student of Butch Harmon again. "I would call a realtor in Henderson, Nevada, and I'd find out where Butch lived and I'd buy the house next door," said Trevino, appearing on ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM's Galloway & Company on Monday afternoon. "I'd go over and ring the doorbell and say, 'Hi, neighbor,' and get back with Butch. That's exactly what I would do." Harmon is currently Phil Mickelson's teacher and a former instructor for Woods. Harmon worked with Woods from 1996, when he won his third U.S. Amateur Championship, until August 2002. Woods won eight majors and played some of his most dominating golf under Harmon's watchful eye, including his 15-stroke victory at the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach in 2000. At Pebble Beach on Sunday, Woods started the day in contention, but shot 75 thanks in large part to woeful putting, while Mickelson shot 64 to win his 40th career PGA Tour event. Trevino, who won six majors on the PGA Tour in his career, said he believes both Woods and Harmon should "bury the hatchet" and work with each other. Woods has worked with teacher Hank Haney after his departure with Harmon and is now with Sean Foley. "I'm sure there's bad blood there, at least that's what I've heard," Trevino said. "I haven't talked to Butch in years, so I don't know how he feels with Tiger and I don't know if Tiger is too proud to ask for the help and if he asked for help if Butch would give it to him. But I think they speak to each other when they see each other at tournaments. If they do that, I don't see why two grown people can't sit down. He's all messed up right now." Lee Trevino doesn't suffer fools/foolishness. He never had the time/luxury.

Tiger played a practice round today at Augusta National. Is that a sign of his upcoming status for next weekend.

I'll even take him finishing a tournament...without getting cut or withdrawing..at this point I want Tiger to win three more majors... as the viewership before every major after that, will be through the roof. Us hardcores are fine without him; but I like it, when he's in the mix.

Well...I will say it again...There is only one major he even has any realistic chance of winning again...and it is Augusta...so he will have to win 8 or 9 green jackets in the end...not going to happen.

I have to disagree a bit with this. I believe that Tiger is either going to be good enough or not good enough period. If he can win Augusta he could win any of the majors IMO. The one that may give him the most trouble would be the U.S. Open as it requires pin point accuracy off the tee or one really pays the price with the rough as long as it typically is for that event. Tiger can get by with missing a fairway from time to time at Augusta, the British and the PGA. When Tiger struggles he tends to be crooked off the tee. It will be a necessity that his short game be in shape or he isn't winning any event on tour period let alone a major. I don't majorly love Tiger or majorly hate Tiger but am a little more on the like Tiger side. I think it would be interesting for the game if he got his game together and starting contending again.

I don't see any reason why he all of a sudden could win at Augusta but none of the others. He is especially a great fit for the Open Championship. He really can't win at St Andrews?

The British open is like the grip it and rip it tourney. Just hit the ball hard and let it roll through all the weeds and miss a few pot bunkers. Let it roll on the greens that have two flags in them and hope it lands closer to the hole you are aiming at. As bad as the Valero Texas Open is it's still 10 times the course that any of those in the British Open rotation are. I did notice at the Valero that it was a green course which is more than can be said for the Brownish Open.

There might be a venue here or there at the other majors that offer a bit more of an opportunity...but it still becomes more of long shot. AUGUSTA...will reward many who really love the place....long after they really contend elsewhere. It is why guys like Vijay, Couples and Langer are still solid there. Why 12 years AFTER winning his sixth...Jack was a whisper away from claiming his seventh. It is the same course every year ...Tiger...and Lefty will have at least some chance at Augusta...even when they play 95 percent Champions Tour events.

GreenJack,
You are right about Augusta in that certain players do play much better there than they do elsewhere. The Masters tends to have many repeat champions and doesn't necessarily favor players newer to the course. It seem like a golfer is either made to do well there or simply does not ever do well there at least until they have plenty of experience playing there. Some no matter how long they play there will never seem to catch on to the unique way it plays. Once a good player there it seems like always a good player there.

I have one 'Tiger' story, which I think I've related, before.
Me and two buddies went to the Western Open in rural Chicago, in '94. (Joe Jemsek was part owner of Dubsdread, host course. His brother John, was a dentist in our downstate Illinois hometown; hence, our 'in'/free tickets)
Spent a few minutes with collegiate Tiger, at that tournament.
Tiger was rushing ahead to play with Kite/Crenshaw, that year.
Not surprised Tiger wanted to join two Texans, today.
“I had the most interesting day,” Crenshaw said. “I saw Tiger in the parking lot and he asked who I was playing with and I said Jordan [Spieth] and he said, ‘I’m a single.’ I told him to join us. His game looked really good.”
Couldn't help, but flash-back (as a humble fan) 20 yrs later.
I think I also remarked, that it was enjoyable to see a 'young Tiger'... so carefree/enjoyable/full of life, back then.
It's good to see 'that Tiger', again. I hope it's here to stay.
