I'm not a huge fan of the Am portion of this tournament but if you ever get a chance to play or go to Pebble Beach and the area, do it. It is probably ranked number 1 on my list of favorite places I have ever been.
I may have told this story before but my wife and I went to Pebble Beach about 4 years ago. Stayed right on the 18th. Not sure I've ever enjoyed breakfast room service more. Sitting there with the patio doors open eating breakfast watching the waves slam into the wall at 18. Spectacular. (on a side note, pretty sure I've never paid that much for breakfast before either. LOL)
Anyway, the first day we played Spyglass Hill. My wife golfs but did not play on this trip. She did walk along though. I came SO CLOSE to a hole in one on #15. Ball landed just to the left of the hole, took a bounce past the hole and backed up and barely missed going in as it slowly rolled back. Ended up about 18" from the hole. The group went nuts. It was like in slow motion when it went past the hole. So, as we were walking off the tee box I was walking shoulder to shoulder with my wife. She leans over and whispers.............thank GOD that didn't go in. I was like WHAT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? In my head I could have had a hole in ONE at Spyglass? I looked at her and she started laughing and said.................could you imagine what our bar tab would be??? LOL (I missed that fucking putt too btw) LOLOLOL
Also, the day we played Pebble we got rained off the course. They shut it down. It was blowing 30 to 40mph most of the day. It rained so hard they shut down the course. So, we didn't get to finish. We waited for about an hour. We didn't know we could have just waited all day and played. But, it was COLD too. Anyway, several hours later we were in the room as my wife got ready for dinner I was watching out the doors. Here comes a SINGLE golfer. I watch him hit several approach shots. Next shot goes into the bunker on the right of the green. Away from the ocean. He hits out and it goes rocketing across to the other bunker next to the ocean. He walks across the green and hit no less than 4 or 5 shots in the bunker to try and get out of this bunker. LOL He finally gets out. Putts. Putts again and again and finally gets it to within inches of the cup.
He walks up to the cup, taps it in.............looks all around him..............like he turned a full 360 slowly..............then raised both his hands, one holding his putter straight up in the air!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was awesome! You could tell this was a life long bucket list thing and he finished the round in triumph!!!!
To give you an idea of the wind. Hole 7 is the little par 3 on the ocean less than 100 yards down hill. It was SO windy I hit a 4 or 5 iron instead of a wedge. Literally aiming out at the ocean. I struck that ball pure. Couldn't have hit it better. I landed 20 yards short of the green. LOL
cheers!!!
