Ryan had as much as a nearly 1,000 point lead but that has been shaved to 600 as his players that were once consistant in both small and large events have cooled off. He will still be hard to catch but this might not be as much of a run away as it once seemed. Kuchar, Reed, D Johnson, Rose, Casey and Henley have all been producing unbelievably so far. It's tough not to have some cool off effect as the year goes on. The depth on this team seems strong but it's definately the top players doing most of the damage here.
I have been in 2nd place most of the year and have been doing so with smoke and mirrors. I have a very deep team with no stars to be able to rely on in big events. I have probably scored the most overall points in tier 3 events because of having players that are consistant but likely not spectacular. It helps to have many players play in most events and it gives me many choices from the bench players to be able to sub in each week. I still am absent of having one of my players win an event during the fantasy golf season.
Off Course has ridden Rory McIlroy into 3rd place. His win at the match play and Wells Fargo gave him two wins on tier 2 events. IMO Jim Furyk and Ben Martin are likely his next best contributers.
Weekend Hackers has a huge tier 1 win from Fowler and a tier 3 win from Snedeker. Zach Johnson hasn't been bad and Oosty when he plays has been decent. Hackers will need more consistant bench contributions to make a run for the top.
Back 9 Guy has two big wins from the amazing Jordan Spieth one being the biggie tier 1 first place points handed out at Augusta and another being a tier 3 event. Chris Kirk handed his team his third win of the season this week. There have been so many underachievers down the roster or this team would probably be in 2nd place alone.
Great Scott has a team with players that have hurt his team in tier 3 events due to many of his players not playing in the U.S. Usually this team will make up for it in the bigger events but so far this year his top players are not carrying his team as much as they need to for him to be way at the top of the standings. There is still plenty of time for Great Scott to make a run but he is going to have to have better luck in the big events to make up the ground.
Sea Island Mafia has a team with Bubba and Walker who have carried his team but Watson doesn't play very often and Walker is starting to lose his edge. Haas, Woodland and Kokrak have been good but the rest of the roster is not chipping in much putting alot of pressure on the top 5 guys.
Enough Pars has a top 4 that looks very formidable but Woods barely plays and doesn't win anymore when he does. Mahan is very inconsistant. Dufner may have fallen into a black hole to possibly never be heard from again and Koepka with so much promise is either injured or not playing enough limiting his point scoring potential despite getting a win in Phoenix this year. J.B. Holmes has been very good this year and Senden is another solid player. I think alot of just plain bad luck has contributed to this team not being higher in the standings.
Angry Birdies took over a team that went through some bad luck with players not being subbed in or out due to strange circumstances. The roster looks solid and one would figure this team would be higher up in the standings but two of the impact golfers Horschel and Mickelson have been very inconsistant this year and in the case of Phil just doesn't play enough. With Matt Jones, Garcia, Leishman and Justin Thomas gives this team a strong top 6 but some players just aren't coming through to be able to make up for the inconsistancies at the top of the roster.
Sysiphus is also a team taken over mid season and one that looks stronger on paper than in reality. I guess so goes Adam Scott so goes Sysiphus. With Scott, Simpson, De Jonge, Todd, Na and Every that makes up a formidable top tier of golfers. The top 2 are hurting this team. Scott has been non existant and Webb Simpson hasn't been strong for much of the year putting this team in an early hole that has been tough to get out of.
