The first round is in the books and some surprises tied for the lead.
Goosen and Singh are turning back the clock
Summerhays a bit of a surprise at -5 Fathauer I didn't even know existed until a week or two ago
anyone under par right now is off to a good start.
Not such good starts for Haas, Simpson, Mahan (not a surprise), Donald and Els

On PGAtour.com they had a highlight clip of the end of the Northern Trust Open in 2012. Mickelson and Bradley were both 1 shot back coming to the 18th on Sunday. Bill Haas was in the lead. There were only something like 6 birdies all day on 18. Mickelson had about a 30 footer or so for birdie and drained it center cup. Bradley had about a 15-20 footer for birdie and also drained it as well. Both made the playoff after the dramatics at 18. The crowd was going crazy. I believe Bill Haas ended up winning the playoff but I would have to check on that. Wouldn't it be nice if we had some sort of a repeat to the ending of the 2012 tournament.

That was a great finish and I remember it vividly. I like it when a course plays tough and bites and this one does that for sure.

Riviera bites back...is tough. You need to be very precise...and likely putt well....recovery there is harder than many other courses. Perez did well today... Westerner finally had a poor round. He had been on a current streak of sixteen straight rounds where he was at least in the Top 25...until today. Thing was...He really didn't play poorly...just very few birdies today. He birdied the first hole...and that was it. He had two bogeys on front nine to be one over...then three more on back. We will see what Friday brings....With so many surprises at top...things COULD be very bunched up after tomorrow if the current leaders fall back a bit.

Wiesberger...NOT "westerner"...dumb autospell on phone...pththth. Cjeka...yeah --he always has been a fickle play...does a lot of nothing, but then when he has a moment, it usually is a good/strong one.

Well the Goose held up in round 2. Let's see how the weekend goes. Two years ago he had a disc replacement surgery which is just major back surgery. Incredible to see him back.

I am not a fan of Goosen so selfishly I hope he falls apart on the weekend. Same goes for Singh but his demise already started today. It looks like Bubba Watson had a good day and he is in good position to still be able to defend his title. Spieth is also hanging around nicely after today. Sergio is also in the mix but is another Euro that I would like to see fall apart. Can you tell I am generally not too fond of Euros. Josh and I would really clash there. Luke Donald is one I actually like but he will miss the cut despite having a good round today. Keegan got himself back in the mix after a nice 2nd round.

Lol...yeah...we clash there...even though technically Goose is South African....Via whom I have been a longtime fan from Fiji. I tend to like the foreign players...should be a blast when Eric and I get together next year for the Ryder Cup. Lololol

Sorry I forgot Goosen was not a Euro. I actually don't mind players that come from Australia or South Africa but don't like the Goose. I don't like players that come from Fiji, or should I say player. No one is counting out DeLaet as he is right there in contention. Casey is getting his game together but I am not sure he is quite ready to win just yet. For me Ryan Moore only wins when it's the off season for fantasy golf. It would be nice if he would win an event that actually counted. He has a chance this week.
Ryan did you start Ortiz this week, he is hanging in there. I think Josh might end up regretting letting Ortiz go.

I am sure a move most would have done. I was just giving you shit by the way, still 2 rounds to go and the course is tough!

One good thing about Riviera is that 18 is always an interesting hole to finish with. It's a very easy hole to bogey but with a tough yet good approach shot putts can be made there. It's getting into good position on the green in two which is the tough part on that hole. The change in elevation from tee to green is probably the toughest part of it. Having the lead by 1 stroke is a scarey proposition on that last hole trying to hold it. I don't always remember particular holes from course to course but I always remember the layout of 18 at Riviera.

I admit...I dropped Ortiz, but was planning it for a week...then return to my roster. He had done virtually nothing to that point...so I thought I could maybe get away with it...but Ryan was there. Should have known better...have had little things like that happen before in this league more than once...and to myself as well. Oh, well...sigh. Ortiz has played well last two weeks. It will be interesting to see how some of these newbies... guys like Thomas, Finau, Ortiz, Prugh, etc. Will do now that the "meat" of the schedule is approaching. That Berger you added, Eric...He was with Koepka at Florida State..so you'd THINK he would have some familiarity this coming month...

The last group of DeLaet, Goosen and Moore have teed off in round 3. Saturday is supposed to be moving day but on this course not moving might be a better option. Moving today might means bogey's and not birdies.
DeLaet eagles the first to go to -7 Goosen birdies and is also at -7
They are both 2 clear of the field. One of those 2 back is now Sang-Moon Bae who is 5 under for his round. He might really have an advantage going out a bit earlier. If he can post a good early score he might be posed for the final group on Sunday.
